The Vacancy

Wates is currently looking for a Board Assistant to report to the Executive Managing Director – Construction. In this role, you will oversee the Board of Directors, providing comprehensive business secretarial services, coordinating activities among Board members, and ensuring the company’s compliance with statutory obligations.

As our Board Assistant, some of your key responsibilities will include:


  • Provide comprehensive company secretarial support to Board members, including preparing timely documentation and critical business reports.
  • Facilitate Board and Committee meetings by preparing agendas, setting deadlines, recording notes, and ensuring follow-up on actions.
  • Manage all aspects of the Board meeting lifecycle, including planning, task coordination, and handling key queries.
  • Co-ordinate with various departments to collect, organise, and present information, supporting corporate governance initiatives and updates.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of the UK Companies Act, corporate governance codes, and relevant regulatory frameworks, coupled with experience in a company secretarial role. Proficiency in using secretarial software like Diligent Board and Microsoft Office is essential. The ideal candidate will excel in minuting meetings, communicating effectively at all levels, and managing relationships with external advisors. They should be a highly skilled multitasker, capable of prioritising their workload within tight deadlines, and possess strong critical thinking, strategic problem-solving abilities, and confident interpersonal skills. Leading with honesty and integrity is key.
