The Vacancy

Wates are seeking a talented Sustainability Advisor to play a key role in delivering the Wates Group Environmental Sustainability Plan. The role holder will operate the utility bureau and sustainability reporting systems, plus play a key role in the annual reporting of our carbon and energy performance. They will also support in identifying energy and carbon hot spots, driving improvements, and implementing initiatives across the Wates Group portfolio that will result in carbon emissions reduction.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing sustainability case studies, awareness campaign materials, undertaking site audits, and provide recommendations to drive carbon emissions reductions. The candidate will also engage with our projects and supply chain to reduce our carbon emissions in line with our science-based targets.

Other Sustainability and Environmental Professionals will support the role to conduct compliance audits and report into the Group Head of Energy and Carbon.

AS OUR SUSTAINABILITY ADVISOR YOU WILL:

  • Providing support and guidance to projects and departments on utility and sustainability matters
  • Liaison with utility providers, procurement, supply chain, and commercial teams to drive carbon reduction measures with a focus on SBTi supplier target.
  • Reporting and measuring the environmental impact of projects and Business Units with a particular focus on carbon and energy reporting for SBTi published targets.
  • Conducting energy, carbon and environmental inspections of our offices and construction sites

The successful applicant will have good analytical skills with a working knowledge of reporting and visualisation tools such as PowerBi. The candidate will have a good understanding of carbon accounting, SECR reporting, GHG protocol and be able to communicate these to project teams and stakeholders. Previous working knowledge of schemes such as SBTi and ESOS, with an awareness of international standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 50001, BS EN 16247, and application of Environmental Management Systems, are also desirable. You will be Degree qualified in Environmental Science or Management, Engineering (construction related), or Architecture (or equivalent), and ideally a Graduate Member of a relevant professional body (ICE, IEMA, CIWM, IOA, ICE, CIBSE).

This role can be based in either the Midlands or London with some travel and is a mix of office and home based.
