Associate Director – Nature Based Solutions

The Vacancy

Wates Group currently have an opportunity for an Associate Director to join our Developments team in Leatherhead.

Within the group, Wates Developments is an expert in land, planning and development throughout Southern England, the South West and the Midlands. Our business holds a large and growing portfolio of potential residential and commercial development land, and our team focuses on securing valuable planning consents in sustainable locations, in both town and country where it is needed most.

As an Associate Director at Wates Developments, you will spearhead the growth strategy for our habitat bank, supporting our sustainability objectives and strategy, while maximizing financial returns from Biodiversity Net Gain unit sales and other nature-based solutions.

As our Associate Director you will:

• Develop a comprehensive growth strategy for the habitat bank, balancing environmental, social, and financial considerations.
• Create and implement procedures, financial models, and reporting mechanisms to support strategic objectives.
• Cultivate and maintain a strong network of contacts in land acquisition, ecology and land management.
• Negotiate contractual terms and maintain relationships with stakeholders including landowners, local authorities, developers and supply chain.

We are looking for an Associate Director with knowledge of the Environmental Act with a focus on the emerging capital market for biodiversity and other nature-based solutions, and an understanding of regulator and local planning authority processes.
