This 60-acre site is a great example of how people and the environment can work together to create a sustainable, high-quality place.

As a strategic land promoter and Principal (Master) Developer, Wates Developments Group puts sustainability front and centre, working hard with stakeholders to create places that will leave a positive and lasting impact on local communities.

Connecting people to nature

Through extensive public engagement, we learned that many residents felt disconnected from the countryside. This site offered us an opportunity to bring the community closer to nature by designing a large park with circular walkways and cycleways that link seamlessly into town with scenic views as company.

Green spaces for nature, too

On this site, we not only aimed to create a high-quality open space that people will enjoy using, we also wanted to help wildlife and biodiversity to thrive. We worked diligently with our ecologists and landscape architects to design the open spaces to support nature. Biodiversity is expected to improve by nearly 15%, with a further 52% improvement to hedgerows from our planting programme. Our resident Great Crested Newts will be relocated to new ponds to protect them from areas of high footfall.

By creating the right balance between humans and nature, both can thrive.
