Sustainability at the forefront
At Wates Developments Group, our purpose is to reimagine places for people to thrive. As a strategic land promoter and Principal (Master) Developer, we put sustainability front and centre, working hard with stakeholders to create places that will leave a positive and lasting impact on local communities.
Shaping a great place for people
This 54-acre site in Bramley is in a prime location. Close to public transport, doctors, and schools and within commuting distance of London, it will provide:
- 140 new homes (40% affordable)
- Wide range of amenities to meet local needs, including a new community hub with a shop, café and co-working space
- 40 acres of open green space
- Community allotments, orchards, and wildflower meadows
- A trim trail (for people of all ages)
- A new skatepark.
Inclusive places are thriving places
We strive to create inclusive places — thriving communities where people from all walks of life feel welcome. Through inclusive design, we seek to remove barriers that create effort and separation and enable everyone to participate equally, confidently, and independently in everyday activities.
To help create an inclusive, thriving community in Bramley, we included a new skatepark in the plans. These can often face local resistance, as people assume these spaces encourage anti-social behaviour; however, evidence shows the very opposite. Skateparks provide benefits for those who use the facility, as well as the wider local area. For example:
- Skating in a well-designed park is much safer than skateboarding in the street;
- Skateparks are public recreational places that can be a hub for the community, bringing together people of all ages to meet and interact.
- They improve the health and well-being of users and can reduce social exclusion.
To ensure the skatepark will deliver on its promises to the community, we partnered with a leading UK skatepark designer. We can’t wait to see this fantastic new facility come to life!
