In May 2022, we began a whole house retrofit contract for Nottinghamshire Council as part of their £1.5m Social Housing Decarbonisation Demonstrator Fund works.
The 26 properties chosen for improvement were all Energy Performance Certificate
(EPC) D or below and comprised of detached houses located in rural areas, as well as blocks of flats nearer a town centre. Many of the standalone houses are of non-traditional construction including concrete-built houses.
Planning constraints meant that a large amount of brick-effect render had to be completed as part of the works. In addition, existing PV panels and air source heat pumps had to be inspected and either moved or replaced to enable us to install new insulation. These existing measures are all now interacting with the newly installed measures ‘as a whole system’ to ensure they deliver the intended outcomes of the retrofit assessment.
These works will aim to improve the EPC ratings of the homes to at least a C rating and a heat demand target of 90kwh/m2/annum.
Wates stand alongside NCC in their mission to protect and enhance Nottinghamshire’s outstanding local environment. We are proud to have delivered works critical to achieving the council’s goal of becoming net carbon neutral by 2030.”
