Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust programme of works
Procured through the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Construction and Associated Services Agreement which is designed for the use of all public sector bodies to commission the construction and maintenance of schools, hospitals, universities, prisons, housing and offices. Our team began the first phase of works in February 2022 and concluded works to five subsequent phases in April 2023.
Phase 1: The project was designed and carried out to make way for revolutionised lab equipment to better serve the hospital’s haematology, biochemistry, cellular pathology and microbiology services and to build in more capacity to cater for increased demand on the NHS. Not only this, the project has created further office, meeting and storage space for key consultants alongside new ramp access for deliveries and overall improved aesthetic. Works involved a phased strip-out and refurbishment of the existing Pathology department at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital over levels A and B. Despite the hospital remaining operational throughout, we meticulously implemented a tailored phasing strategy to ensure no disruption to department activities or building services
Phase 2: Works entailed a robotic pharmacy fit out of the existing Burrell Wing building at Royal Hampshire County Hospital. The lowest floor, vacant since the original construction, was adapted and reconfigured to include new administration office space, meeting rooms and an automated pharmaceutical dispensing robot as well as the formation of a new shell for the hospital radio. Work commenced in 2020 during Covid-19 restrictions when our fit-out and refurbishment team was appointed by Hampshire Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust to deliver the fit-out works.
We’re delighted to complete the pharmacy fit-out at the hospital and I’m extremely proud of the team’s outstanding work on this project, particularly as it was delivered under strict Covid-19 restrictions and within an extremely busy critical environment.
Throughout the project, we worked collaboratively with the various stakeholders to ensure their needs were met and we maintained a continuous presence on site throughout each step of the work to effectively manage the progress.
Wates has worked with a variety of leading pharmaceutical companies, medical research organisations and NHS trusts; and our role often involves working in proximity to, and advising on, critical equipment.
