Cleveland Clinic is one of the leading providers of specialised medical care in the world, focused on providing clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes. The project’s intention was to create a UK flagship site for the leading US healthcare provider, combining the best of Cleveland Clinic with the best of UK healthcare.
The facades of the existing listed building have been retained, the remaining structure has been demolished and internally we delivered a new build hospital and research facility. The team used hi-tech data capture tools to manage this project, monitor progress, collaborate on design and share live feeds to the client in the US.
A couple of the project’s key achievements were the first use of laminar flow Ultra clean hoods in the Theatres, where the hoods have no flange effectively, creating a wall of clean air. We also had to design a specialist chilled water system with all non-ferrus materials so it didn’t interrupt the MRI machine. We also filled the closed circulatory water systems 12 months before PC and devised a manifold system to keep it circulating and clean to give the client early heat on to areas of the building.
