Wates celebrates completion of Stag House development
Wates has completed work on 22 much-needed new homes at Stag House in Wandsworth, celebrating with an official event to mark the handing over of keys to Wandsworth Council.
The national contractor and developer has been working in partnership with Wandsworth Council as part of its ‘Housing for All’ programme to deliver 1,000 new homes for residents and local workers.
The first occupants of Stag House are expected to move in within the next two weeks to properties including 11 social rented flats, 10 flats for residents with a physical and/or learning disability and 1 warden flat.
The development also includes the creation of a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) which recently opened for residents to enjoy, following the easing of some Government Covid restrictions.
Independent charity, The Wates Family Enterprise Trust awarded Putney Vale Residents Association with a £1,200 Wates Giving grant to invest in Chelsea Football Club’s ‘Premier League Kicks’ training project. This programme will see Chelsea FC visit the estate’s local school once a week to provide training and help hard-to-reach youngsters through sports participation.
This is another demonstration of our commitment to build 1,000 new homes on our larger development sites, which will help people in the borough buy or rent a home that is right for them.
Our Housing for All programme is well underway and we are confident of reaching our targets despite the challenges of the recent Pandemic and the difficulties of building in one of the most congested cities in the world.

We have already built 100 homes, and are on track to complete 1,000 homes by 2027. We are prioritising our homes for people who live and work in Wandsworth and I am delighted we are building attractive, sustainable, quality housing that will stand the test of time.
We are doing this at a time when we need to do everything we can to support London’s economic recovery. This is why following the pandemic, the council agreed to redouble its efforts to build more housing with a further 2,500 homes planned over the next 10 to 15 years.”

We stood on this spot back in February 2019 to mark the start of construction and I’m delighted to now be handing over the keys to our partners at Wandsworth Council.

Wates and Wandsworth Council made a joint pledge to provide employment and training opportunities for local residents through their partnership in the borough. This has included the creation of on-site apprenticeships, work experience placements and structured training programmes such as the Wates Group’s Building Futures programme, which provides basic construction training and helps participants develop new skills to help them make the transition into employment.
Wates continues to deliver 71 new homes for social rent at Shuttleworth Road in Wandsworth, as part of the Council’s wider Winstanley and York Road Estates regeneration programme. Completion is expected in late 2021.
