Modular installation moves to Romford Market, Havering

This move provides a unique opportunity for visitors to experience first-hand how high-quality, sustainable modular housing can be deployed to support communities in need.
The module, which was designed, delivered, and built in just over 90 days for the Building Centre exhibition, showcases cutting-edge construction techniques that prioritise efficiency, sustainability, and comfort. Now situated at Romford Market from 10 March to 3 April, which you can learn more about here.
The installation has already drawn interest from local councillors, Council officers, and key stakeholders – including representatives from Rollalong, London Borough of Havering – our partners at the 12 Estates Joint Venture, and members of the Wates team, who are exploring how modular housing can contribute to long-term housing solutions.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to tackle housing shortages, including a recently submitted planning application for 18 temporary modular homes at Waterloo and Queen Street. While the Romford Market module is not identical to the proposed units, it provides a tangible example of how modular homes can offer safe, warm, and dignified spaces for families in transition.
To further support this initiative, we, along with our partners, have developed a Modular Playbook, offering a detailed insight into how modular housing can be effectively implemented to address housing challenges. The playbook explores key benefits, design principles, and case studies showcasing the impact of modular solutions.
We invite you to visit the installation to experience the benefits of modular living first-hand and learn more about how Wates is helping to redefine temporary housing solutions. For more details, visit our website or stop by Romford Market before 3 April.
