Proposal for new and affordable homes in Surrey
Along with Vistry Group partners, our developments business has submitted outline plans to Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) for up to 270 new homes in Ashtead, Surrey. The proposals will bring forward vital, high-quality homes – 108 of which will be affordable – on land south of Ermyn Way, close to Leatherhead.
The plans for Ermyn Way will significantly support local housing provision in an area where new homes are urgently needed. Land south of Ermyn Way has been allocated for residential-led development in MVDC’s recently adopted Local Plan, before which it was within the Green Belt.
In partnership with Vistry Group, we have shaped the proposals in line with Local Plan policy and have consulted extensively with Council members, key stakeholders and the general public, including local schools, to seek their views and feedback on the plans. Falling school rolls were a particular concern raised by the Heads we spoke to, so providing additional family housing within the local catchments will go some way to supporting local primary schools.
We’re committed to creating a distinctive and responsive new neighbourhood, offering a good range of house sizes and types. The proposed development will enhance the existing local community and deliver a range of benefits for people in Ashtead, in addition to the much-needed new homes, including:
- A purpose-built community building with potential for a children’s nursery.
- Landscape-led, with approx. 30 acres of open space with green corridors and children’s play areas.
- Potential to deliver 20% gain in net biodiversity.
- On-site car share club and enhanced walking and cycling facilities.
Wates has a long and proud history in Ashtead, so we’re delighted to have the opportunity to bring forward much-needed new homes so close to our head office.
We have an exciting vision for this site to create a sense of place and community, with a landscape-led design that incorporates a variety of green spaces.”
