Wates help create education and development legacy for community in Chichester
A learning space at a new community hub, created from a disused chapel in Chichester has been named in honour of the Wates family following a £6,000 donation from Wates.
The Wates Family Learning room is located in the Chapel, a multi-purpose community space in Graylingwell Park, a development of 750 mixed tenure homes alongside community spaces and sports and retail facilities and has been developed by Vistry Group and Clarion Housing Group.
The new space, which is managed by The Chichester Community Development Trust (CCDT), an independent charity has been redeveloped to include a café, meeting and workshop rooms, children’s play area and open space used by the community during the day and functioning as an events space in the evenings.
When we learnt about the project being carried out at the Chapel we wanted to show our support for work CCDT are doing in the local area. Through our work with Clarion we carry out a range of initiatives across communities in the local area.
Leaving a legacy of education and development is important to Wates and we are delighted that the trust has chosen to mark this legacy by naming one of their learning spaces after the Wates Family, especially as we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the company this year.”
