Our response to the Construction Playbook
The Government is working with the construction industry to find more effective ways of delivering ‘faster, better, greener’ infrastructure that provides value for money whilst supporting a more stable supply chain.
The ‘Construction Playbook’ provides a consistent approach to the procurement of publicly funded projects by bringing together best practice from across the sector.
Steve Beechey, Group Public Sector Director, responded on behalf of Wates Group
“With all the investment and political will building up a head of steam behind the Prime Minister’s call to “Build, build, build”, it’s essential that attention is paid to ensuring that money is being spent in the right way to deliver the right outcomes and impact.
“We believe that the Construction Playbook will play an important role in galvanising the sector to deliver this ambition, and, if implemented in full, has the potential to fundamentally improve the management, delivery and efficiency of construction projects.
“The convening of an industry forum, providing a mechanism whereby government and industry have collaborated to design the playbook, has enabled a productive dialogue and, as a member of this forum, this dialogue is something we at Wates would be keen to see become permanent.
“The Playbook outlines a number of important changes to the procurement of major projects, and as a major partner of the public sector, we particularly welcome those which should bring about much earlier visibility of government pipelines, and the opportunity for better collaboration. Anything which can streamline, and reduce the risks and costs associated with procurement, is to be welcomed.”
