Armed Forces Covenant signed by Eoghan O’Lionaird on 80th anniversary of D-Day landings
This week, Chief Executive Officer, Eoghan O’Lionaird, attended a brief ceremony in the Mulberry cafe at our Head Office in Leatherhead, to sign the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC), on behalf of Wates.
Eoghan was joined by Andrew Gibbs, Regional Employer Engagement Director for South East Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (SE RFCA), Andrew Riggs – Head of Government Sector, Tim Wates, Andrew Wates OBE, and our Head of Social Value, Su Pickerill.
The AFC, last signed by Wates in 2015, is a promise to acknowledge and understand that those who serve, or have served in the armed forces, along with their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society they serve with their lives.
The cafe event coincided with the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6 June, and offered those present an opportunity to reflect on our contribution to the D-Day operations, our ongoing support for the armed forces, and the assistance we provide to veterans and their families.
We thank all veterans and current members of the armed forces for their service and remember those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
We are proud of our association with the armed forces. From supporting the D-Day landings in Normandy during WWII to building a base for the next generation of fighter jets for the RAF.
