This relationship has given us a comprehensive understanding of its estates’ requirements.
In 2022, we were appointed to fit-out and refurbish 12 probation offices, as part of a nationwide programme of investment by the MoJ to modernise the estates being used by the Probation Service in England and Wales.
One of the first projects to complete was the Probation Service (PS) Ipswich office, which included the full strip out of a 1980s office building, followed by works to reconfigure and decorate the space to include new office facilities, superloo toilets, new mechanical and electrical services, flooring and break out areas.
This was a project which provided us with a unique insight into the vital work delivered by Probation Service staff. We are proud to have been a part of the work to enhance facilities that enable this vital probation work.
Reclaiming a 1980s office building
Driven with an ambition to upgrade its portfolio, the MoJ’s refurbishment programme at PS Ipswich was designed to modernise and enhance the service.
We were involved with extending facilities, such as break out rooms, with the addition of reflection space and audio-visual equipment to improve connectivity in meeting rooms and group spaces.
The investment also included the installation of Ecophon acoustic rafts to open ceilings in task spaces, and a smart lighting system, including room scene controls and self-testing emergency lighting.
Agile working
Our team’s agility was tested by the unexpected discovery of secondary ceilings above suspended ceilings. A replan of the project was required, which was successfully delivered in close partnership with the NPS and posed no risk to the overall project.
Ensuring positive impact
We are committed to positively impacting our neighbours, on every job we do. At PS Ipswich, we delivered an ambitious strategy to enhance both environmental and social sustainability in line with the Government’s Levelling Up agenda. We were joined on site by three apprentices and employed the services of a number of Social Enterprises within the supply chain. In addition, the PS Ipswich team cycled 14 cubic yards of timber and recycled 95% of the 180 tonnes of waste from the site.
