Wates wins Gold, Silver and overall at Construction Manager Of The Year Awards 2018
Neil Lock, of Wates Construction, scooped his Gold medal and overall prize in the Public and Infrastructure category which saw him overcome huge technical challenges excavating a 16m-deep gallery just two metres away from priceless artefacts in Grade I-listed buildings. The judges commended Neil for managing the project with zest and skill, triumphing over the myriad of technical challenges through his own expertise by building a strong team, an excellent relationship with the client and the professional team through insight, hard work, common sense and excellent communications.
John Laycock of Wates Construction scooped the Gold medal in the Residential category for his work at Vita York. He removed inefficiency and the inessential rather than quality, saved millions and brought the costed design within the budget. He made the delivery work through intelligent methodology, materials choices, and fine planning. The judges commended John for his adept management of a value-engineering exercise that left no stone unturned.
Dominic Hattee, of Wates Construction was awarded a Gold medal in the Office category for his work on Tasman House in London. Overcoming number challenges with this landlocked site, including reducing the building height to satisfy planning without demolishing an already cast core the judges commended Dominic for his problem solving and exemplary ability to make the client relationship prosper.
Dave Nott, Wates Construction London scooped a Silver medal in the Higher Education category for the successful completion of the Sammy Ofer Centre at the London Business School. The refurbishment of the two listed structures as an academic facility saw 21st-century services threaded into a 100 year-old building where no structural plans existed. Commended for curing Regents Disease on this historical project, Dave was also cited for his evident enthusiasm for a high-quality finish and genuine passion for restoration issues.
