Celebrating Excellence: A Remarkable CCS Score at Gartree 2
We are proud to announce an outstanding achievement for our team at Gartree 2 (the new prison under construction in Leicestershire), where we secured an incredible 44/45 score on our first visit for the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS).
This accomplishment highlights the exceptional dedication, commitment, and professionalism demonstrated by everyone involved in this ambitious project.
Gartree 2 represents more than just construction — when the prison opens it will provide around 1,700 much-needed safe, secure and decent prison places. With a focus on achieving Net Zero in operation, we are not only building but shaping the future of sustainable infrastructure.
Significant site preparation has been carried out, including extensive earthworks, surface water diversion, badger sett relocation, and power line reconfiguration. With an expected peak workforce of around 1,250 people, our team is committed to upholding the highest standards in safety, sustainability, and community engagement.
During the visit, CCS evaluators commended our high standards in several key areas:
- Community Engagement: Thoughtful, ongoing dialogue with Gartree village and HMP Gartree ensures minimal disruption, while initiatives like a new community noticeboard and local employment opportunities foster positive relationships.
- Environmental Responsibility: The project boasts significant biodiversity net gains, including tree planting, bat and bird boxes, and natural habitat preservation. Our sustainability efforts are further bolstered by solar-powered equipment, electric fleet adoption, and extensive waste management programmes.
- Health, Safety, and Wellbeing: The site has implemented comprehensive welfare facilities, mental health support initiatives, and strict traffic management controls to protect both workers and the local community.
- Innovation in Construction: With 68% of houseblocks prefabricated offsite, we are optimising efficiency, reducing waste, and minimising environmental impact.

This exceptional CCS score is a testament to the dedication of our site teams, led by Dean Nokes, Project Manager and Carl Ayres, Site Manager, who have worked tirelessly with their team to ensure best practices are upheld. As we transition from the enabling works phase to full-scale construction, we remain committed to reimagining what’s possible and ensuring this project continues to thrive.
