As Commercial Director – Major Projects, Gareth is responsible for pre and post contract commercial governance across the Major Projects Division.
He leads his team to provide transparent and effective cost solutions across multiple sectors and types of contract.
Gareth started his professional career in the construction industry in 1997 and joined Wates in 2001 as an Assistant Surveyor and progressed to Regional Commercial Director for Southern Home Counties and latterly Commercial Director for the entire South region.
In the first quarter of 2023, Gareth assumed the role of Commercial Director for the Major Projects Division.
Gareth is highly motivated and a trusted individual with strong delivery results. Gareth’s forte lies in cultivating strong commercial relationships with clients, consultants and the supply chain.
A leader of commercial teams for a substantial £350m business unit, Gareth’s expertise encompassed a wide array of responsibilities. He has played a pivotal role in matters related to main and sub-contract tender procurement, strategy formulation, risk management, pre-contract negotiations and fostering the growth and development of his team members.
Gareth is vastly experienced in complex two-stage projects. These projects, ranging from £18m to a staggering £600m spans both the private and public sectors. Gareth’s experience under JCT, NEC and bespoke contract forms includes refurbishment, mixed-use developments, educational institutions, retail, prisons, laboratories, industrial, gigafactories and process engineering facilities.
