Valued at circa £3m, the four-year contract will comprise the delivery of various maintenance services to the councils housing stock, including responsive repairs, minor planned works and vacant repairs.
Wates appointment to the Framework for the Provision of Domestic Building Maintenance Services further builds on its relationship with Cardiff Council.
Wates is currently building 292 homes for the Councils flagship house building programme, Cardiff Living, which will see the development of 1,500 homes across 40 sites. The company is set to create approximately 600 council homes for rent or assisted home ownership and a further 900 for sale on the open market, through the partnership. In addition to this, Wates is providing a roofing works contract for £2.9m across 193 properties in Caerau and Rumney on behalf of Cardiff Council.
Wates has also pledged to use the new contract win to bring a boost to the local economy throughout the delivery of the programme, generating approximately 45 employment and training opportunities for local people. The company is also committed to working with local social enterprises, a number of which it met at a Seeing Is Believing event held in the city earlier in the year.
David Morgan, Managing Director of Wates Living Space, commented:
“Being appointed to this framework is of strategic importance to our business, and we are fully committed to making a positive social and economic impact on the local communities and surrounding areas in which we will be working.
We pride ourselves on not only delivering an exceptional service but also creating a legacy for local people through real employment opportunities, training and investment in social enterprises and local supply chain partners.
We are very much looking forward to starting works in the New Year and developing our partnership with Cardiff Council to deliver its aspirations for the improvement of housing stock across the city.”
Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said:
“Building on our existing partnership in the Cardiff Living scheme, were happy to be working with Wates Living Space as one of the maintenance providers for our housing stock over the next four years, ensuring we have good quality homes that meet the needs of our tenants.”
Wates held a Meet the Buyer event earlier this month to help identify local supply chain partners from in and around Cardiff.
